Traffic Concerns Rise Over Alleged Highway Encroachment in Kesinga Alleged unauthorised constructions along National Highway; demand for joint eviction drive and demarcation

Kesinga, 3l10(Starnews Odisha): Traffic management and public safety concerns have reportedly intensified in Kesinga over alleged encroachment and unauthorised constructions along the National Highway passing through the town. A local resident has submitted a written complaint alleging that temporary and semi-permanent shops and other structures have been constructed within the highway’s right-of-way area.
According to the complaint, the increasing presence of such structures along the highway is reducing the space available for vehicular movement. This is reportedly causing obstruction to traffic and creating difficulties for motorists, pedestrians and local residents.
Traffic Disrupted During Peak Hours
Traffic congestion has become a recurring concern along the busy highway stretches of Kesinga, particularly during peak hours. According to the complaint, roadside obstructions are adding to the difficulties caused by heavy vehicular movement. The issue is also said to be affecting long-distance vehicles passing through the town.
Pedestrian Safety Becomes a Concern
With limited space available along certain stretches of the roadside, pedestrians are reportedly forced at times to walk close to moving vehicles. Local residents have expressed concern that such conditions could increase the risk of accidents.
There are also concerns that traffic congestion and roadside obstructions could hamper the movement of emergency vehicles, including ambulances, during busy hours.
Students and Daily Commuters Face Difficulties
Students, employees, businesspersons and daily commuters travelling through the highway reportedly face difficulties due to traffic congestion and roadside obstructions. Local residents have expressed concern that if the situation remains unchecked, traffic pressure in the town could increase further in the coming days.
Demand for Joint Encroachment Removal and Demarcation
Against this backdrop, a demand has been raised for the authorities to officially identify and demarcate the land falling within the jurisdiction of the National Highway and remove alleged unauthorised constructions and obstructions from the highway area.
The complainant has urged the Kalahandi district administration, Kesinga NAC and the local police administration to conduct a joint inspection and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
It has been further suggested that clearly demarcating the highway boundary and keeping the carriageway free from obstructions would help improve traffic movement and enhance the safety of pedestrians and motorists.
